This Privacy Policy explains how Ohana Ventures, Inc. ("Ohana Ventures," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use Secondhand Legends — our mobile application, our website at secondhandlegends.app, and this marketing site (together, the "Service"). Secondhand Legends records tabletop role-playing game sessions, transcribes them, and turns them into written stories.
Because the Service records audio of group conversations, please read the sections on recordings and other people at your table carefully.
1. Information we collect
In short: the account details you give us, the campaign and character content you create, the audio you record, what we make from that audio, and the minimum needed to run the app. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.Information you provide
- Account information — your email address and display name when you create an account; optionally a phone number and a shipping address (used only if you later order a printed copy of a story).
- Campaign and character content — campaign names, character names, descriptions, backstories, custom vocabulary (proper nouns you teach the app), images you upload, and notes.
- Session recordings — the audio you record during a game session. See Section 2.
- Communications — messages you send us for support, and your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter.
Information we receive from your use of the Service
- Transcripts and stories — the text transcript and the novella we generate from your recordings.
- Payment records — when you buy a transcription, story, or subscription, our payment processor (the app store you purchased through, or our web payment processor) handles your card details. We receive a record of the transaction (such as what was purchased and whether it succeeded), not your full payment card number.
- Limited technical data — basic information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as authentication tokens, device/app version for compatibility, and server logs.
We do not embed third-party advertising networks, and we do not run third-party web-analytics or behavioral-tracking tools on this Service.
2. Your recordings, transcripts, and stories
In short: your recordings and the text we make from them are yours. We store them so the Service can work and so you can access them, and you can delete them. When you record a session, the audio is stored securely so it can be transcribed and turned into a story, and so you can play it back and download it. Your recordings, transcripts, and stories belong to you. We access and process them only to provide the Service to you (for example, to run transcription and story generation, to display them in the app, and to let you export them), to maintain and secure the Service, and as required by law.
3. How we use information
In short: to run the Service you asked for, take payment, support you, keep things secure, and meet legal obligations.- Provide, operate, and improve the Service — including transcribing recordings and generating stories.
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Process purchases and manage subscriptions.
- Respond to your support requests and communicate with you about the Service.
- Send you our newsletter if you have asked to receive it (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- Protect the security and integrity of the Service, prevent abuse, and enforce our terms.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
4. AI processing and service providers
In short: we use trusted vendors to store data and to run the AI that transcribes audio and writes stories. We don't sell your data to anyone. To deliver the Service, we share information with service providers ("processors") who act on our behalf and are permitted to use the information only to provide their service to us. They fall into the following categories:
| Type of provider | What they handle for us |
|---|---|
| Speech-to-text transcription | Session audio and the resulting transcript |
| Generative-AI story writing | Transcript text and the campaign and character context you provide |
| Cloud database, authentication, and storage | Account data, campaign and character content, transcripts, and stories |
| Cloud audio-file storage | Session audio |
| Backend processing | Audio, transcripts, and related job data in transit |
| Email delivery | Your email address and message content |
| Payment processing | Transaction data (your card details are handled by the processor, not by us) |
| Website hosting | Standard web request data |
We choose established providers that are bound by their own terms and data-protection commitments, and that are permitted to use your information only to provide their service to us — not, for example, to train their own models for others. We can provide the identities of our current service providers on request; contact privacy@ohanaventures.us. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Voice and biometric data
In short: we do not create voiceprints. The Service does not build a biometric "fingerprint" of anyone's voice.Secondhand Legends transcribes speech and can separate a recording into distinct, anonymous speakers (for example, "Speaker A," "Speaker B"). You may then manually label those speakers with your characters' names. We do not generate, store, or match voiceprints or other biometric identifiers, and we do not use voice data to identify or authenticate any individual. If we ever introduce optional voice-identification features in the future, we will update this policy and obtain any consent the law requires before doing so.
6. Other people at your table
In short: recordings capture everyone's voice. You are responsible for making sure the people you record know about and agree to it.A session recording captures the voices of everyone present, not just yours. Laws about recording conversations vary by location, and some places require the consent of everyone being recorded. You are responsible for informing the people at your table that the session is being recorded and for obtaining any consent the law requires before you record. The app will remind you of this before each recording. If a person you recorded asks you to remove their voice, contact us and we will remove the relevant recording.
7. How we share information
In short: with the service providers above, when the law requires it, and if our business is ever transferred. Never sold.- With service providers who process data on our behalf (see Section 4).
- For legal reasons — to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or an enforceable governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or us.
- In a business transfer — if Ohana Ventures is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will require the recipient to honor this policy or notify you of any material change.
- With your direction — for example, when you export or share a story yourself.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
8. How long we keep information
In short: audio is kept for 30 days unless you subscribe to keep it longer; transcripts and stories are kept until you delete them; account data lasts as long as your account.- Audio recordings — kept for 30 days by default, then deleted. An optional storage subscription keeps your audio for as long as the subscription is active.
- Transcripts and stories — kept until you delete them or close your account.
- Account and campaign data — kept while your account is active, and for a limited period afterward as needed to comply with legal, accounting, or security obligations.
9. Your choices and rights
In short: you can access, correct, export, and delete your data, and unsubscribe from emails. Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights. You can view and edit much of your information directly in the app, and unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link in any newsletter email. Because campaigns, recordings, and the stories made from them are shared among everyone at your table, deleting them can affect more than one person — so to delete your recordings, transcripts, stories, or your account, contact us and we will take care of it with you. As part of that, we will let the others in your group know rather than removing shared content without warning.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. This includes rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) for California residents and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for individuals in the EU/UK. To make a request, contact us using Section 14. We will verify and respond to your request as required by applicable law.
10. Security
In short: we use encryption and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure. We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you as required by law.
11. Children
In short: the Service is for people 13 and older. Don't record a child without the consent required by law.The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Because recordings can include the voices of others at your table, including minors, you are responsible for obtaining any parental or guardian consent the law requires before recording a minor.
12. Where your data is processed
In short: we operate in the United States, and your data is processed there.Ohana Ventures is based in the United States, and we and our service providers process information in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice (such as in the app or by email). Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
14. Contact us
